Deeds Worth Doing

Quests & Missions

TODO: quest chapter, arranged by city. Each quest entry is a compact card: client, requirements, reward, repeatable — then a short prose walkthrough. Source: story/ acts and the quest dependency graph.

How Quests Work

Reading a Quest Entry

TODO: what a quest card's columns mean — Client, Where, Requirements, Reward, Repeatable — before you dive into the per-city lists below.

Prerequisites & Order

TODO: quests unlock by prerequisite; once unlocked, complete them in any order.

Saela'Riin

Monster attacks on the Broadgreen have pushed Saela'Riin to accept Imperial reinforcements it never wanted — and the arrival of Imperial Awakened has the city's Houses on edge. Your early missions carry you between the Council of Safety and a House politics you're only beginning to untangle, all while Imperial Awakened trail your every move.

Popplin Port

Popplin Port welcomed Imperial support against the sea monsters testing its Tidewall, but the Empire's refusal to share its airships has the city's confidence curdling fast. Your early missions have you running errands for Houses Lumen and Aerinel alike, right as public opinion starts turning against the Empire that's supposed to be helping.

Khasaret

Khasaret has lived beside an Imperial garrison for as long as anyone remembers, but the mine's growing importance has brought more soldiers and more questions than the city is used to. Your early missions keep you in House Yhraen's good graces while the old city quietly wonders what the Empire really wants with its tunnels.

The Shared Arc

The three openings never really touch — Saela'Riin, Popplin Port, and Khasaret each run their own campaign, closer to three parallel timelines than three threads of one story. They braid closer together once you push into the wider world in Act II, and hard-merge at the Act III summons to Imperial service: from that point on, every Awakened follows the same missions regardless of the city that raised them, with home-city ties surviving only as flavor.

Act I

Build Notoriety with your home city — the missions and monster-culling that make your name known before the wider world starts calling.

Act II

Leave your home city under the Imperial banner and get your first real look at the Houses, the rebels, and the faithful who don't all agree the Empire is doing right by Vhael.

Act III

Answer the Empire's summons and begin its rank climb — every Awakened's path converges here.

The acts past this point turn on revelations the story works hard to earn. Each is folded away below; open them only if you have already played that far, or if you are reading this to build the game rather than to play it.

Spoilers — Act IV: The Crack

Contact with a radical faction plants a question about your orders that you can no longer unhear. The Cult — a splinter of the Vhaelwalker faith — makes contact, and what they tell you flatly contradicts what the Empire has been sending you to do. Act IV is the investigation that follows.

Spoilers — Act V: The Forbidden Truth

Break from the Empire's orders and go where you were told not to. The undercity mine, the super soldiers, the Faded, and finally the forbidden northern battlefield produce the same conclusion from four directions: the Empire refines souls into weapons, and burning Aether is what ends the world. You have been an accelerant since Act I. You break with the Empire here.

Open (GDD Appendix B): what fights the player in the undercity mine, and how the Dawnkeepers turn from attacking Awakened in Act II to allying with the player here.

Spoilers — Act VI: The Puppet Emperor

The Emperor has mutated himself with Aether and ordered drilling to the planet's core. You kill him — and he turns out to have been a false boss. His drilling provoked the apocalypse; it did not cause it, and killing him does not stop it.

Open (GDD Appendix B): whether a puppeteer stands behind the Emperor.

Spoilers — Act VII: The Gardener (ending)

The true final boss is the Gardener: an Awakened from a previous turn of the wheel who took up the tending of the Tree of Vhaelthorn and was slowly maddened by the Aether he keeps. Starved by the Empire's consumption, he began the apocalypse himself. You kill him, and the calamity is prevented.

Then the Tree still needs tending, because an untended Tree means a dead world. Someone steps forward. The wheel turns again — and the next Gardener will madden exactly as this one did. Victory was always going to cost a sacrifice; the only question was whose.

Open (GDD Appendix B): whether the Gardener reads as sympathetic during the fight or only afterward; who takes the mantle at the end; and whether players understand the cost of victory before the kill or after.

Repeatable Work

Bounties & Contracts

TODO: repeatable bounty and contract boards — how they refresh and what they pay out.

Daily Life

TODO: daily repeatable tasks and their rewards.

Later Cities

TODO: mission and quest content for cities encountered later in the story — Shieldhome and others — once they're locked in the arc.
